The Blue Ribbon Commission Youth Enrichment Zone

The Youth Enrichment Zone is designed to make community resources available to reduce youth violence, increase education rates and make a brighter future for children, families, and individuals living within a specific zone in North Wilmington.

Cape Fear Guardian Ad Litem

Program that " offers enrichment opportunities to approximately 500 abused, neglected and dependent children who find themselves in the foster care system in New Hanover and Pender Counties, and supports the 150 Guardians ad Litem (GAL) who advocate in court for these children."

Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red Cross

Local affiliate of the America Red Cross, "a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement that provides relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies."

Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity

Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity is a "Christian-based housing ministry serving the Cape Fear area that assists families in the Cape Fear area who are working toward the purchase of a Habitat home."

Cape Fear Literacy Council

Local literacy center that offers "individualized literacy services for adults in the Cape Fear area so they are able to meet their goals and develop their potential."

Centre of Redemption

Non-public, faith-based restorative program offering a "safe house" and boarding school atmosphere for victims of human trafficking who are pregnant or have a child. Volunteers must complete a 4-session, 4-hour training to understand the context and needs of this sensitive subject.

Child Advocacy and Parenting Place: CAPP

Organization designed to be a "regional community resource for parents, families and children through nurturing, education, mentoring, advocacy, empowerment, and child abuse prevention." 

Christian Women's Job Corps of Wilmington

Organization that provides a "Christian holistic approach in which women in need are empowered and equipped for life and employment, moving from dependency to self-sufficiency; and a missions context in which women help women."

Coastal Enterprises of Wilmington

Organization that provides job rehabilitation services by helping "unemployed adults in reaching their vocational goals." Grounded in the belief that "everyone can work," Coastal Enterprises creates jobs, provides training, and gives unemployed citizens an opportunity to work.

CUE Center for Missing Persons

CUE (Community United Effort) is an organization that provides free services and support for missing persons and their families. CUE also offers college internship and youth mentoring programs.

Domestic Violence Shelter of Wilmington

Local organization that "provides shelter and direct services for victims and their children in New Hanover County. Other areas are served as needed."

Local organization "dedicated to feeding, sheltering, and caring for those in need. Our goal is to nurture the talents of each individual in order that they may accomplish their calling, mature in their faith, develop sustainable living habits and progress toward their fullest potential."

The Full Belly Project

Non-profit organization that "designs and distributes income-generating agricultural devices to improve life in developing countries." The Full Belly Project is rooted in the principles of "invention, design, and construction; partnership and collaborations with locally based social entrepreneurs; distribution of appropriate technologies; education; and outreach and marketing."

Local organization that provides a "soup kitchen and homeless shelter designed to foster transition of those in crisis to independence in the community."

Local thrift store specialized in home improvement and building supplies. Proceeds help run the Cape Fear Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

Nourish NC

"Nourish NC began in 2008 when a small group of concerned women discovered that children in their school were going hungry on weekends. These parents decided to take action and funded a backpack program for those 20 children at Carolina Beach Elementary School. News of the success spread quickly and Nourish NC expanded to a middle school in 2009. With widespread interest in the program, Nourish NC became a 501(c)3 non-profit and now provides weekend meals for over 190 children in New Hanover County schools. Nourish NC also provides weekend food for the long holiday and summer breaks."
