  • Volunteering with Grandparents Support Network

    20140424_180239[1]

Once again 3MP has been busy in the community. Last night we answered the call volunteering with a local group that helps grandparents that have been given custodial rights to their grandchildren.  Last night the group celebrated Easter in a meeting at Empie Park. The meeting featured an Easter egg hunt for the children and a short awards presentation by their main guest district Attorney Ben David.  The Grandparent Support Network students recieved awards for things like making the A,B Honor  Roll and excelling at high school football. 3MP helped serve food, played games withthe kids and took time to shoot hoops with the older teens.  It was an awesome experience and we look forward to our next opportunity.

  • A Look Back

I felt it was time to look back at our past 3MP grads and transfers. Many of these students come back to share with the new and exisiting members on their experiences at four year colleges.  We look for more success and and a growth in our 3MP family this upcoming year. Many of our leaders graduate this year but that just leaves room for others to find their place.  All members of the past know they can always come back to share wisdom or to get help getting back into school.  Our motto this year is “Built to Be Great; Destined To Overcome.”

Juan Guevara is a veteran, a 3MP member, V.P of Phi Theta Kappa, President of the Math Club and a newly accepted student of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington family. Olujimi Jumoke has an awesome story of overcoming. He has gone from a life of hardship and bad decisions to becoming a strong and celebrated leader. He is Student Government President and now boasts being accepted to UNCW. Martez Newkirk has been a God send in terms of the 3MP program tutoring in Math and often volunteering his time to help others.  Kywan Keyes who has just been accepted to UNC-Charlotte has really put in the work and perseverance to move on to the next level despite any of his fears. David Wilson who has been involved in the 3MP, Phi Theta Kappa, and a student Ambassador has served as a role model for many students. This is his 2nd degree and he is now moving on to the next level of his journey.

All of these students have been awesome members and contributors and students of the Minority Male Mentoring Program at Cape Fear Community College.  We all want to say congratulations and UNCW…UNCC…World… LOOK OUT!!!

  • Feeding Friends Holiday Banquet

Hi!  Welcome back.  After classes were done 3MP had a great time volunteering for the Coast 97.3 Feeding Friends Holiday Banquet.  All students were involved in one way or another making connections with the community and enjoying food and fellowship with each other.  The event was catered by Award-Winning local chef Keith Rhodes from the show “Top Chef.”  After I explained to him what 3MP was about and that he was an inspiration as an entrepreneur, Mr.Rhodes expressed that he would love to help 3MP in any way he could. “That’s what I do,” was his response . I am especially proud of the turn out even though the semester had already concluded.  Thanks for your support!  We’re looking forward to 2013! Stay 3M Focused!
