How do I use my Financial Aid to purchase my books on http://cfcc.bookstore.edu?

Online and Distance Learning students that receive Financial Aid normally pay for their books out of pocket using a credit card via our website. The financial Aid Office will then issue you a balance check for the unused funds in your account. (Check with Financial Aid for a timeframe.) Otherwise, policy requires for all students to physically come into the store to charge to their Financial Aid.

What do I need to use my Financial Aid to pay for my books?

For security purposes, policy requires that all students physically come into the store to charge to their Financial Aid. The following are required to complete the transaction: • Copy of your Schedule (if you don’t already have a copy, you can print one from your WebAdvisor account) • Current Student ID and/or current Photo ID Back to Top When is the best time to sell my books back for cash? Although the bookstore buys textbooks back daily the best time to sell is the last week of classes. This is when a wholesale publisher is present paying the most money and taking a wide variety of textbooks.

Do I need my receipt to sell back my books?

No. A receipt is only required when returning a book during the allotted refund period.

Why do some books have no value to either the bookstore or the wholesale publisher?

One of the most common reasons for a book to have no value is because it’s an old edition. Once the scheduled publication of a new edition is announced the resale value of the current edition begins to drop. When the new edition is available, the old edition will no longer have any resale value.

How does the bookstore determine which books to buyback?

We don’t. Which books are bought is determined either by the faculty definitely assigning a book for next semester (giving the bookstore a signed “adoption”), in which case the bookstore will buy the book, or by the wholesale publisher demand for your book, in which case we will act as an agent for wholesale publisher. Why didn’t my instructor pick a cheaper text?

Your instructor is concerned with providing the best materials to help you achieve success, not the cheapest materials. We encourage them to look for less expensive alternatives, without jeopardizing academic integrity; these include facilitating the search for alternative textbooks, the use of e-materials, the use of course packs, or encouraging the continued use of the same text as in previous terms so that more used texts will be available to students.

Why aren’t there used copies of my text?

We aim to get as many used copies as possible, but we may have sold out – check back during or after the next textbook buybacks to see if we have picked up more, as that’s when we have the most used copies in stock. When the book is a new edition, no used copies may yet be available. Some textbooks are such a great resource; students don’t want to sell them back. Sometimes instructors aren’t able to let us know what books they will be using in the next semester at the timing of our buybacks. We aren’t able to buy back books if we don’t know they will be needed for the next semester

Why aren’t there any copies—new or used—of my text on the shelf? Are you sold out?

If we are waiting for more copies of your book, there should be a note on the shelf with details. If there isn’t, we are likely just sold out and are bringing more stock out from the back. Please ask one of us to check! An empty shelf does not necessarily mean that we are out of stock.

How can I save time purchasing their books for next semester?

To make book purchasing as time-efficient as possible, bring the course registration list with them to the Bookstore. Specific and valuable information for textbook purchases is on the course registration, including course section numbers and instructor names. You should be confident that you are going to remain in the class before purchasing your course materials.

How can I skip long lines in the bookstore?

The Bookstore offers two services to help students conveniently obtain their books.

RESERVATIONS – Hop on the Sea Devil Express and never wait in line again! You can visit the bookstore website http://cfcc.bookstore.edu during the posted dates and reserve your needed materials. Select the books you need, and then select the in-store pick-up option. Online Reservations require a credit card to secure payment for the items ordered. Pick up dates are specific so be sure to come in on the posted dates otherwise the books will be restocked for other students to purchase.

ONLINE ORDERING – You can order your books online with a major credit card and have them shipped out of the store directly to your home or office. It will take us 2-3 business days to process your order, for local in-town shipments it generally takes FedEx 3-5 business days to deliver your package, if the order is being shipped out of town it will take longer depending on the distance.

What if I can’t find my class and/or section online?

If you can’t find your class, make sure that you have selected the correct term. If your class still doesn’t appear in the course list it could mean one of two things:

1.) There might not be a text required or 2.) We have not received any course information from the instructor.

If you have any questions or concerns about your course material, try contacting your professor or feel free to call the bookstore.

Why should I shop at the Cape Fear Community College Bookstore?

The CFCC Bookstore and its staff-members are knowledgeable with CFCC courses on the books required for your classes. We work very closely with the academic divisions of the College to ensure that the correct course materials are made available to students. We offer the convenience of buying here and, within the limits of our refund policy, returning here if there is a problem with the book, if you drop the class, etc. There is a CFCC Bookstore located at both campuses. The CFCC Bookstores also offer book buyback at the beginning and end of each semester to help students recoup some of the money spent on textbooks.

If I take classes at the Wilmington and North Campus where do I buy my books?

Books should be purchased at the campus bookstore in which you are taking the classes. This is important due limited space and specific requests provided by the instructor.

Why are textbooks so expensive?

Without question, textbooks are expensive and like everything else, they continue to get more expensive every year.

Until a student goes to college, textbooks are often free. If it is the first time you have ever purchased a textbook, the price will probably be a shock. If your only experience with buying a book is paying $12.95 for a paperback novel or $34.95 for a hardcover book that you really want to read, then watching a textbook scan up at $90.00 or more will come as quite a surprise! But textbooks are not produced in the same way as your typical novel. Textbooks have vast amounts of research, technology that changes at the blink of an eye, medical advances that have to be updated and included in new editions, expensive drawings, charts, diagrams and multi-color graphics and pictures. Textbook prices reflect real costs. When you purchase your textbooks from the CFCC Bookstores you make the right choice. When you think about it…textbooks are a good value. You will learn a great deal from them, they are your “tools for success” and represent a part of the investment you will make in your education and your future.

How can I save money on textbook costs?

Many students prefer to purchase used textbooks rather than new. This is one way a student can save money on textbook purchases. The CFCC Bookstores carry a large selection of used textbooks which sell for 30% less than new textbooks. This provides you, our customer, with an option and an opportunity to save some money. Although we secure as many used titles as we can from students and companies whose primary business is selling used textbooks to college stores, it is impossible to carry all the used books customers want and need. Therefore, if you are interested in purchasing used books, shop early to take advantage of the greatest availability of stock.
