CFCC Alumni Association Seeks New Members
The Alumni Association of Cape Fear Community College is one of the few alumni associations established for community colleges in North Carolina. The mission of the CFCC Alumni Association is “to form partnerships and strengthen relationships between the community, the College, and its alumni.” Anyone eighteen years of age or older who has attended CFCC may join the Alumni Association at no cost.
In addition, those who have earned a degree, certificate, or diploma from CFCC may serve on the Alumni Council. The Alumni Council of Cape Fear Community College was founded in 2008 to represent and provide leadership for the Alumni Association. The Council’s elected officers for the 2008-2009 school year are as follows: Dawn M. Hale ‘08, President; Shelly Duncan ’00, Vice-President; the position of secretary is currently vacant.
President Dawn Hale says her favorite part of serving on the Alumni Council is being able to give back to a school that helped change her life. “If everyone who has benefitted from their education at CFCC joined the council,” she says, “the meetings would be standing room only.”
Hale says one of her main goals this year is to increase awareness of the Alumni Association at CFCC. She intends to spread the word by planning fun and exciting events. An exclusive alumni homecoming reception will be held at the February 20th men’s basketball game against Brunswick Community College at 6:00 p.m. She feels that “the more fun we have, the more interest we will have in the Alumni Association.”
The CFCC Alumni Association currently has over 1,000 members. For information on how to join, please visit www.cfcc.edu/alumni. If you are interested in serving on the Alumni Council, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (910) 362-7209.
Cape Fear Community College is one of the oldest and largest schools in the North Carolina community college system. Approximately 27,000 students take courses at CFCC each year, and a significant portion of CFCC alumni reside in Wilmington. Studies show that for each dollar spent on educating CFCC students, more than $2.36 is returned to the local community.
