SunTrust Bank Gives $2,500 to Support CFCC Business Students
Wilmington, NC –SunTrust Bank recently donated $2,500 to support scholarships for students enrolled in business programs at CFCC.
As Cape Fear Community College’s student population continues to grow, there is an escalating need for financial assistance. Scholarships help many students to realize their educational goals.
“Scholarships for students in our business programs are greatly needed,” said Melissa Watson, CFCC Business Department Chair. “Many of our students are returning to college after having been in the work force for a number of years. They rely heavily on financial aid, which is sometimes just not enough to cover tuition, books, and fees. For these students, many times, receiving a scholarship means the difference between dropping out of school or finishing and graduating.”
“At SunTrust, we know there are few factors more essential to our physical and mental well-being than the quality of life in the communities in which we live,” said Sandy L. Spiers, SunTrust City President. “We believe that supporting education – along with the arts, health, and human services — is essential to the improvement of that quality of life.”
“SunTrust has a valuable partner in Cape Fear Community College,” Spiers said. “CFCC has a reputation for making higher education accessible to all, each year preparing more students with the education and training they need for meaningful and rewarding employment. Those students become a state-of-the-art workforce, driving economic growth throughout our region. In this way, CFCC serves not just their students, but their entire community every day. SunTrust is committed to making our communities healthy, economically vital, and ready to tackle the future… which is why SunTrust is proud to support Cape Fear Community College.”
Merit-based scholarships from this donation will be awarded to students in one of CFCC’s Business Programs or to students with a pre-major in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Marketing who plan to transfer to a four-year institution upon completion of the Associates of Arts degree at CFCC.
