For over a decade, the Wilmington Contractors Association has been supporting student scholarships at Cape Fear Community College.  This past January, the association donated $2,000 to The Wallace and Virginia West Endowed Scholarship.  In addition, the Association donated $500 to the yearly Thurman Watts Construction Scholarship.

The Wallace and Virginia West Endowed Scholarship was established by the Association in 1998.  The scholarship is awarded to students in a field of study related to construction and is based on grade point average.  Jason Porter and Morgan Whitfield are the 2013 recipients of the West Endowed Scholarship.  Porter is part of CFCC’s HVAC program and Whitfield is a student in CFCC’s Construction Management program.

The Thurman Watts Construction Management Scholarship is a memorial fund in honor of Thurman Watts.  This scholarship is a way to recognize Watts’ contributions to the construction management industry and to his community.  CFCC student Tyler Bearden received the 2013 Thurman Watts Scholarship. He is currently enrolled in CFCC’s Construction Management program.
