Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce to honor Chef Michael McGowan with gift to CFCC scholarship fund
The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce will present a check to Cape Fear Community College for the Michael McGowan Endowed Scholarship Fund on Tuesday, June 4 at 12:00 pm at Michael’s Seafood in Carolina Beach.
Michael McGowan was a well-loved chef in the area who recently lost his battle with Cystic Fibrosis. Â The Michael McGowan Scholarship was established by Michael’s wife, Shelly. Â The scholarship will be available to students in CFCC’s culinary program.
To date, more than 70% of the funds needed have been raised to establish an endowed scholarship by September 2013. Â The ultimate goal is to raise at least $20,000 for the endowed scholarship, so that funds will continue to be available to students who share McGowan’s passion for cooking.
