The initial collection contained 750 titles. On Friday, May 14, NC LIVE added a second installment of downloadable audio books to its new collection (http://ezproxy.cfcc.edu/login?url=http://nclive.org/cgi-bin/nclsm?rsrc=259). As with the previous installment, the new titles were purchased with LSTA grant money from the State Library of North Carolina.
The new titles number approximately 250 new selections, as well as additional copies of previously owned content. The collection focuses primarily on language learning, history, biography, and classic literature. All together, the collection now contains nearly 1300 copies of audio books for public and academic libraries across the state.
The eAudio content is downloadable to either an iPod or MP3 player, and playable on a PC or Mac computer.
CFCC students, faculty, and staff can use the new audio books by visiting the LRC website and navigating to NC LIVE under Articles & eResources (http://cfcc.edu/lrc/databases/index.htm#N). If you are accessing from off-campus, you will be prompted for your CampusCruiser/WebAdvisor login.
Each audio book user will need to set up his or her own personal “bookshelf,” which functions much like a shopping cart. After adding items to their bookshelf, patrons can then download their audio book and listen directly from their computer, or add it to their iPod or MP3 player.
For books that are unavailable because all copies are checked out, patrons can place a hold. An email notification will let the patron know when their book is available for download.
