Many of you have received an email from Rep. Justice recommending that we contact the members of both the NC House and NC Senate Appropriations Committee on Education. Here is a list of those members.

This is Round Two, please resend your original letters to the members on our list above, they will make sure we are included in the budget.

As always, thanks for your support.

Recently, the Marine Technology program has been targeted for elimination in Governor Perdue’s budget. This short sighted decision will have enormous ramifications for the currently enrolled students in the program and our ability to supply industry with a skilled workforce.

To ensure we have full funding will require the support of our Marine Technology students, graduates, employers and friends. I urge you to write and call your 2011 Local Delegation (see who represents you here: http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/GIS/RandR07/Representation.html) and demand that we receive our full funding.

Attached is Cape Fear Community College’s local delegation (if you are an out of state student contact them). If you are from another NC county be sure to use the above link and email your ‘home’ delegation. Everyone, regardless of their representation should include the following two individuals in their correspondence:

Speaker of the House
Representative Thom Tillis
NC House of Representatives
16 W. Jones Street, Room 2304
Raleigh, NC 27601-1096
Thom.Tillis@ncleg.net
919-733-3451

and

President Pro Tempore of the Senate
Senator Phil Berger
NC Senate
16 W. Jones Street, Room 2008
Raleigh, NC 27601-2808
Phil.Berger@ncleg.net
(919) 733-5708

I have attached several talking points (2011 Funding talking points) about our unique program, please use them in your letters. The time to act is now, we must be included in the House and Senate budgets if we are to continue our tradition of graduating students who get jobs in the marine industry.

Thanks for your support.
