My teaching influences are Jesus Christ and Gandhi because both men led by example and embodied principles of peace and compassion. However, if I may be so bold, I believe I have more fun in my classrooms than they probably had in theirs. And my language is, I am guessing, a tad more salty.
I am a published writer and also direct the annual production of Arts Poetica, a free public performance of poetry for the greater Wilmington area.
For CFCC, I have served on the Minority Male Mentoring Program committee, the Martin Luther King Celebration committee, various committees for the English department including Creative Writing and English 112; I have participated in the inaugural year of the Writer’s Roundtable (free creative writing workshops for the public) and directed Arts Poetica for four years running.
My works of fiction have been published in Louisiana Literature, the Greensboro Review, the Powhatan Review, and ZAHIR. My plays have been produced locally, and my next work, A Large Camel Crosses a Vast and Forbidding Desert, premieres at Old Books on Front Street in October 2011.
