Wilmington Health Associates recently presented a check for $4,500 to fund health education scholarships for Cape Fear Community College students. Mr. Jeff James, CEO, and Mr. Chris Bunch, CFO, of Wilmington Health Associates, presented the check for $4,500 to Dr. Eric McKeithan, president of Cape Fear Community College.
“We appreciate the opportunity to contribute to health care education in the community,” said James. “We enjoy being able to give to students who will eventually be able to give back themselves.”
Since 2002, Wilmington Health has provided scholarship support to nursing. This funding assisted students with tuition and books. In recent years, WHA has expanded scholarship support to students in radiography and medical sonography programs at CFCC.
Heather Jacobs, a first-year student in CFCC’s radiography program, currently receives a Wilmington Health Associates scholarship. As a mother of four children who has been working two jobs, the scholarship support has been a welcome relief. “The scholarship has helped me so much,” she said. “It allows me to work fewer hours and gives me more time for studying, so I wasn’t as stressed out this semester.”
Wilmington Health Associates is the Cape Fear area’s largest physicians’ group, with over one hundred providers, seventeen medical specialties and nine facilities in Wilmington, Leland, Carolina Beach and Porters Neck. The partnership between Wilmington Health Associates and Cape Fear Community College provides overall support within southeastern North Carolina.
According to Regina McBarron, CFCC Allied Health Department Chair, “health science programs at CFCC consistently pass certificate and board exams with scores that exceed the state and national average.”
