WILMINGTON – Over 400 local citizens gathered at the Schwartz Center of Cape Fear Community College on May 21, 2009 for the annual “Gift of Education” luncheon sponsored by the CFCC Foundation.
By the end of the event, the college foundation had received $212,000 in pledges, which pushed the annual giving total to a record-breaking $1.5 million for the year.
North Carolina Community College System President, R. Scott Ralls, Ph.D. spoke to the crowd of local business and community leaders as the keynote speaker. This year’s luncheon, themed “Empowering students. Providing hope in our community,” raises funds for student scholarships. Dr. Ralls spoke about CFCC’s role in revitalizing the local economy. The luncheon also featured several very moving remarks from recent graduates about how CFCC Foundation scholarships have impacted their lives.
This was the fifth annual luncheon to raise funds for student scholarships at Cape Fear Community College. Last year, more than 450 donors raised a record breaking $275,000 which helped to provide more than 350 student scholarships and pushed the 2008 fundraising total to more than $1.3 million.
