CFCC’s cosmetology program has gotten an extreme make-over and is showing off the final results. The college opened the doors to the brand-new salon in Castle Hayne on Sept. 1 and is open for business. The program was previously located in downtown in a converted metal building on Third St. and has recently moved in to its new classroom building at the college’s North Campus on Blue Clay Rd.
The salon is used by students for the hands-on portion of the program which offers over three dozen services in hair styling, manicures, pedicures and facials.
For students, it’s an essential part of their training. All students must spend over a thousand hours honing their skills in a wide variety of areas before the can graduate and pass the state certification exam. Certificate students needs a minimum of 1,200 hours. Diploma students need 1,500 hours of hands-on practice before they can graduate and begin working.
A total of 225 students are currently enrolled in the program.
The salon takes appointments and walk-ins. For a complete list of services and prices provided by the students, visit http://www.cfcc.edu/cosmetology/services.html.
