‘Lunch with an Author’ project benefits CFCC’s creative writing program

In July, McColl & Associates hosted a fund-raising event at the McKeithan Center at the Cape Fear Community College’s North Campus. “Lunch with an Author” featured a number of local and statewide authors, including keynote speaker, Andrew Young, who wrote the book, The Politician: An Insider’s Account of John Edwards’s Pursuit of the Presidency and the Scandal that Brought Him Down. The event raised $4,500 and proceeds were used to provide program support and establish scholarships for students in CFCC’s creative writing program.  These scholarships will cover costs for tuition, textbooks and supplies for students who many not have been able to attend school due to financial situations.

“The fundraiser completely energized the creative writing program,” said English Department Head, Jill Lahnstein. “We have been able to open a creative writing studio, provide scholarships, and hold advanced creative writing workshops.”

Louise McColl, President of McColl & Associates, Inc. stated that they were pleased to have donated $3,000 over the past two years to the Teacher Funds at Intracoastal Realty and $7,500 to the creative writing program at CFCC. The next Lunch with an Author event is scheduled for December 9, 2010.
