For the past three years, UNC Pembroke has been offering the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) degree program to Wilmington area residents holding Applied Associate degrees through classes offered at CFCC’s North Campus in Castle Hayne and online.
To help those interested in finding out how the UNCP BIS program fills their educational needs, UNCP is hosting two upcoming information sessions on the BIS in the Wilmington area. The first is scheduled from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 22, 2011, in the Atrium next to the BB&T Auditorium in the McKeithan Center at CFCC North Campus in Castle Hayne. The second one is scheduled from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 29, 2011, in Room L-110A, next to the cafeteria in the Health Sciences/Learning Resources Center Building at the CFCC Downtown Campus.
The BIS program of UNCP is offered on its main campus in Pembroke, NC, and at distance education sites in Hamlet, Pinehurst, and here in Wilmington. To date, over a quarter of UNCP’s BIS majors reside in the Wilmington area.
Current BIS majors and tracks offered at Cape Fear Community College’s North Campus include:
- The BIS in Applied Professional Studies: Office Administration
- The BIS in Criminal Justice: Sociology
- The BIS in Public and Non-Profit Administration: General
Through the BIS an Associate in Applied Science degree is now the gateway to a bachelor’s degree and a rewarding career in a number of areas. Since this degree means individuals holding an AAS degree are no longer limited in continuing their education, the BIS allows them to move forward with their educational goals. For those looking for a way to transition into a baccalaureate degree program without losing many of the credits from their AAS degree programs, the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies is a perfect fit–no matter what major they select or what AAS degree they earned.
