CFCC to present film series on diversity

Cape Fear Community College’s Diversity Committee will present a film series during the 2011-12 school year. The film, ‘Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes,’ will begin the series on November 14 at 4:00 at the McLeod Building on the downtown campus in room S-002, and on November 18 at 12:00 noon in the North Campus BB&T Auditorium.

‘Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes,’ is an acclaimed documentary directed by film-maker Byron Hurt. It features interviews with Fat Joe, Mos Def, and industry giant Russell Simmons, giving insight into the rap industry. The film highlights gender roles in hip-hop, as well as issues of masculinity, violence, and homophobia.

Travis Corpening, Director of the Minority Male Mentoring initiative at CFCC, will moderate a discussion after the film. Both showings are free and open to the public.

Future films in the series will be announced in the coming months.
