“In Cahoots!”: CFCC program to raise awareness of challenges of students with disabilities

Cape Fear Community College is pleased to present “In Cahoots!”, a film screening and interactive program hosted by Jeremy Vest from MTV’s series “How’s Your News?” on Thursday, April 12 at 2 p.m.  This groundbreaking series of short films chronicled a group of people with disabilities as they traveled around the country. The event will be held in room S-002 on the ground floor of the McLeod Building.

According to CFCC English instructor Dylan Patterson, who helped organize the event, the purpose of the program is to raise awareness within the general student population and the greater Wilmington community about the unique challenges of living with a disability.

“We are trying to create an atmosphere that will allow a greater understanding between CFCC students with disabilities and those without disabilities,” Patterson said.

After a screening of clips from “How’s your News?”  Jeremy will discuss what it’s like to live with a disability, share stories about making films and being on TV, and answer audience questions.

As a complement to Jeremy’s visit, students in CFCC’s Adult High School, Basic Skills, Video Production, and Acting programs are collaborating on a short video to be screened during the event.  Entries in an art contest, featuring portraits of CFCC students with disabilities by art students, will be on display as well.

The program is free and is sponsored by the CFCC Diversity Committee.
