Cape Fear Community College to add new classes in heritage arts this spring

Cape Fear Community College is looking for aspiring artists or hobbyists who are interested in honing their artistic skills. Due to popular demand, CFCC will add three new courses in the arts this spring. The college is seeking students for courses in painting, stained glass mosaics, and acoustic guitar. The exact dates, times and costs for these classes will be set once enough student interest is received. Students are encouraged to pre-register as soon as possible.

Paint It!  Decorative Techniques Masteries: Students will learn a variety of painting techniques through demonstration and creative experimentation.  These skills will be used for painting and refurbishing furniture, walls and decorative objects.  Some techniques to be mastered include color mixing, paint application, pattern creations, stenciling, and hand decorating. Taught by Kerri Ferrari-Marchese.

Stained Glass Mosaics: Students will create stained glass artwork that does not require soldering. Stained glass pattern making and glass cutting techniques will be emphasized. Accurately shaping tesserae forms will be a major focus in this hands-on course that results with the completion of at least one mosaic artifact per student. The instructor is Perla Diaz, an artist with works in the Cameron Museum Shop, Belk Corporation finalist for artistic productions.

Advanced Acoustic Guitar: Students will extend their mastery skills from beginners studies in acoustic guitar. Customized exercises will expand for more developed methodologies in individual and group playing techniques. Topics include bar chords, lead guitar skills, and extended music theory.  Students should bring an acoustic guitar and picks. Local musician, and CFCC instructor, Gary Steele II teaches beyond the basics of guitar performance skills.  Pre-requisite:  Beginners Guitar, or previous experience.
