Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce honors Chef Michael McGowan with gift to CFCC scholarship fund established in his name

Wilmington, NC – The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce presented a check to Cape Fear Community College for the Michael McGowan Endowed Scholarship Fund on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Michael’s Seafood in Carolina Beach.

Michael McGowan was a well-loved area chef who recently lost his battle with Cystic Fibrosis.  The Michael McGowan Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by Michael’s wife, Shelly.  The scholarship will be available to students in CFCC’s culinary program.

To date, more than 70% of the funds needed have been raised to establish an endowed scholarship by September 2013.   The ultimate goal is to raise at least $20,000 for the endowed scholarship, so that funds will continue to be available to students who share McGowan’s passion for culinary arts.

The Cape Fear Community College Foundation exists solely to support the students, faculty, academic programs and mission of Cape Fear Community College.
