On June 13, 2013, over 350 runners braved an unusual mid-June heat wave to participate in the 2nd Annual NewBridge Bank Bridge to Bridge Run and Walk in downtown Wilmington.
Proceeds from the race surpassed $15,000, and will be used to fund student scholarships at Cape Fear Community College.
“It’s exciting for Cape Fear Community College to partner withÂ NewBridgeÂ Bank and to offer our community an activity that promotes healthy living while at the same time providing a fun, competitive atmosphere. Â On behalf of Sea Devil Athletics and our student-athletes, we thank all of the participants, sponsors and supporters of the race. Â Scholarships are so important to our students, and the money raised from this event will help many students achieve their dream of continuing their education,”Â said Robert McGee, Director of Athletics at CFCC.

Dr. Ted D. Spring, President of Cape Fear Community College, and his wife Andrea, walked in the event. Â “We had a fun time walking,” said Spring. “It was wonderful to see how many people turned out for the event. Â CFCC’s partnership with NewBridge Bank for this event has been great for our students and for our community. Â I look forward to next year’s race.”
The overall winner was Caeb Bowen from Culloden, WV, who finished inÂ 22:19:0. Â The top overall female finisher was Olivia Gwynn of Wilmington, NC. Â The top male master finisher was Doug Wheeler of Wilmington and the top female master finisher was Jennifer Pullum of Wilmington.
In addition to NewBridge Bank, sponsors for the event included PPD, Try Sports, Ward and Smith, P.A., Costco, PISA (Pleasure Island Soccer Association), Omega Sports, Great Clips, Moe’s, Road ID, Pita Delite, Subway, Coca-Cola, Carolina Farmin’, and Cousins Italian Deli.
