Coast Guard Auxiliary Offers Boat Safety Course at CFCC

Do you want to handle your boat like “pro”?  What is the best type of boat for you and your family?  What do you do in inclement weather?  Can you get around on the water safely right now?

USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 10-06 will be holding its “Boating Skills & Seamanship” course from 5 September to 30 September on Monday and Thursday nights on the downtown campus of CFCC.  Time is from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM each night.  Cost is $35.00.  Reduced cost for each additional family members taking the course.

This is an eight chapter program.  Topics to be discussed include the following topics; selecting the right boat, equipping a boat properly, boat handling, how to use lines and knots on your boat, reading and understanding navigation aids & rules, coastal charts & elementary navigation, weather, radio, trailering, regulations & legal matters, health & safety concerns and America’s Waterway Watch.

The State of NC has mandated that all boaters between the ages of 16 and 26 must take a boating safety course effective May 1, 2010.  A PWC (Personal Water Craft) is a boat.  This course meets that requirement.
