Founded in 1984 by choreographer Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Urban Bush Women (UBW) seeks to bring the untold and under-told stories and histories of disenfranchised people to light through a woman-centered perspective. As members of the African Diaspora community, The UBW believe that their work creates a more equitable balance of power in the dance world and beyond.
Zollar and Urban Bush Women, along with director Raelle Myrick Hodges and comedic writer Keisha Zollar, will present HairStories 3.3, a multidisciplinary, evening-length work that addresses matters of race, gender identity, and economic inequality through the lens of hair, primarily that of African American women.
This program is proudly brought to the Wilson Center by Cape Fear Stage, the presenting arm of Cape Fear Community College.
