Human Resources Development Department
The Human Resources Development (HRD) Program offers continuous six-week classes throughout the year to help adults who are unemployed, underemployed, or looking for further education. Programs are subject to change without notice.
HRD teaches job preparation skills such as resume writing, correctly completing job applications, and interviewing skills. Self-awareness, motivation, and self-esteem building are also stressed through this program. Other HRD courses are tailored to address specific areas. Examples of these are Basic Typing Refresher, and Basic Computer Refresher. Family Enrichment/Parenting classes are also offered. All HRD classes are free to the public.
Current Program Offerings and Information
The ENTRY class is designed to assist students in obtaining and maintaining entry-level employment with local businesses and industries.
Students must attend a 4-hour orientation prior to each class cycle. Dates and times for the orientation will be given when students call to register for classes.

Basic Keyboarding Class (FREE)
9 am - 12 pm, TWTh for 4 weeks. This free course addresses decision making, goal setting, communication, resume writing, job search,interviewing techniques and introduces Computer Keyboarding skills. Students will receive a certificate upon the successful completion of the class. To register, you must come to Cape Fear Community College. Space is limited - NO Phone Registrations will be accepted.

Welfare to Work (WtW)
(The WtW Program is for Pender County residents only.)
This program is designed to move eligible hard-to-employ recipients of WAFFA into long-term unsusbsidized employment and self-sufficiency. Specific services provided include:
- On-the-Job Training (OJT)
- Childcare assistance
- Transportation assistance
- Occupational Skills training (financial aid available)
- Job Placement assistance
- Mentoring
- Job Retention and Supportive Services

The Pender County JobLink Career Center located on the Burgaw Campus of Cape Fear Community College provides a centralized location to address your employment and training needs. JobLink offers comprehensive training and employment services to the community.Local workforce development professionals from various partner agencies work together to provide you with the best services possible.
Career Center Partners include: Cape Fear Community College, Vocational Rehabilitation, Employment Security Commission, Pender County Schools, YWCA, Cape Fear Partners for Success, Council of Government Region "O",and Department of Social Services.
