JobsNOW Career
Training Programs
Responding to North Carolina’s need to get people back to work, Governor Bev Perdue created the “JobsNOW 12-in-6 Project,” a workforce development initiative to offer short-term training of workers for eligible jobs in the current economy. With the support of the NC Department of Commerce, Community Colleges throughout NC have identified occupations which are favorable in their regions and developed specific career training programs to prepare workers for those jobs. All JobsNOW career training programs can be completed in 6 months or less so that students can quickly re-enter the workforce.
Cape Fear Community College is offering 5 JobsNOW career training programs for occupations that have a shortage of workers and/or high growth potential in New Hanover and Pender Counties. In addition to completing all classes in the program, students must also complete a course in Employability Skills and earn a bronze level Career Readiness Certificate (CRC). The CRC remains a proven system for linking jobs skills with workplace success and is a universally valued workforce credential.
Students who complete a JobsNOW career training program and obtain a CRC are highly desirable for employers in our region.
This initiative is supported by the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act, Department of Commerce, Division of Workforce Development and the Cape Fear Workforce Development Board.
