Early Child Development
The basic Continuing Education course introduces theories of child development. Instructional strategies for teachers, assistants, and child care aides are included. Multi-sensory and age specific lesson plan development will be studied in conjunction with information about behavioral characteristics.

Effective Teacher Training (Substitute Teacher Requirement)
The course is required for all North Carolina teachers, and most counties’ substitute teaching staff. Lecture-discussions, lesson plan development that includes multi-sensory activities, and time and behavior management skills focus the course content. This class is also recommended for teaching assistants and child-care workers.

Spanish for Educators and Others
If you work with children or teenagers you might want to communicate better with individuals from Hispanic families. This course provides useful phrases for dialoguing with youths and their parents. Greetings, verbal directives, congratulatory and disciplinary remarks are included in the study.

Studying Hispanic Cultures and Celebrations
What is the cultural heritage of local Hispanic students and their families? What are those annual Hispanic/Latino celebrations about? Non Hispanic teachers and interested adults will undertake a study of the value systems, scholastic literature about these cultures, and learn best methodologies for incorporating the information into lesson planning, and classroom or extracurricular activities.

Understanding Behaviors
Educators analyze appropriate and inappropriate behavior patterns exhibited by students from various grade levels. Managing a classroom with different personality types, and choosing effective disciplinary tactics highlight course content. Developing appropriate age-specific behavior modification plans will also be addressed. Participants will discuss the availability of community resource professionals who can assist with analyses and behavioral problems.

Foundations In Instructional Technology
Teachers will study and practice the most current methods of incorporating technology into classroom teaching. The appropriate uses of N.C. LEARN resources, high tech teaching strategies, Internet uses for a variety of subjects, and the newest and best Google resources will focus instruction.
