International Honor Society of the Two Year College
Our very own Lorie Pacheco was a 1st team All USA academic team member and a Guistwhite scholar this year. She accepted her award at the international conference in Gaylord, TX (she is the sixth person from the right in the 1st photo). Also, Erica Spivey was the flagbearer for North Carolina!
We inducted 171 new members this year and the officers enjoyed planning and conducting each ceremony. We had great guest speakers and look forward to a productive year in 2009 and 2010!
Several members helped organize and staff our booth at our college's Harvest Health Fair. Thanks to everyone that was involved; several members that helped out are shown in the attached picture.
Two members of Alpha Chi Sigma, Brandyn Waddell and Callie Potter, helped raise money for the American Heart Association's "Heart Walk" held at Wrightsville Beach, NC. They held creative fundraisers and got many students involved.
Our chapter journeyed to the foothills of North Carolina to take part in frolicking and fellowship with our sister chapters from South and North Carolina.
As a chapter, we collected over 500 used textbooks and donated them to two different charities: The Latin America Fund and Books for Africa. Thank you to everyone at Cape Fear that donated their textbooks especially the bookstore, library, the social/behaviorial sciences department, the math department, and early childhood.
This years Honor's Institute was held in glorious Louisburg, North Carolina and focused on how we, as citizens, can have power within our own communities. The theme was: The Paradox of Affluence- Choices, Challenges, and Consequences.
We journeyed to lovely Greenville, SC for the 2008 Officers Academy and Leadership Conference. The theme was "leadership can be hypno-larious" and we had loads of fun- several of our members were hypnotized and a lot of knowledge concerning the four hallmarks was garnered.
We inducted 87 new members this past spring at our north campus. It was a great day: our guest speaker, Barbara Croll, delivered a great message, our sister chapter at James Sprunt CC joined us, and Middle of the Island catered the event.
We raised over $500 at this community-wide event this past April. Special thanks to all of the PTK members that came out and walked (and stayed up most of the night!).
The Alpha Chi Sigma chapter inducted 67 members on Saturday, December 1st. Friends and family attended and fun was had by all. Middle of the Island catered the event and Frank Carter, program head of Humanities and Fine Arts at CFCC, was our guest speaker.
We celebrated the end of the semester at a member's house and everyone practiced the art of sushi rolling. A motion was made to make this event more frequent- we shall see!
PTK members, along with hundreds of other volunteers, spent the morning cleaning up the areas around Greenfield Lake and Wrightsville Beach. Keep America Beautiful organized this event and provided all of the materials; it was truly a success!
At this event, members collected donations for the Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence Centers. Items collected included: over 50 sweaters, 13 winter coats, over 80 shirts, 5 fleeces, 500 sample sizes of shampoo, 150 cans of shaving cream, and many, many other items! Thanks to everyone for giving!
