Purpose
Our center is an on-campus facility to be used for the care of young children, and training of quality early childhood professionals. It is a lab school and a model. It is owned and operated by Cape Fear Community College.
Philosophy
The primary goal of this center is to provide an environment that fosters the growth of the whole child in all areas of development including social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative with the ultimate result that children reach their maximum potential. Believing that children are competent, autonomous people, each child's developmental level, needs and interests will be of utmost priority. The program model is based upon the concept that children learn through play and "hands on" experiences. They will interact with the environment, explore, experiment, and problem solve. The program will be child centered including free play, individualized, and small group teacher directed activities.

About the Center
The facility consists of 5 classrooms, one multi-purpose room, a parent/staff resource room, three bathrooms, kitchen, Assistant Administrator reception area, and Administrator's office. It has a fenced-in playground, which includes a bricked and railed activity deck.
The program's maximum enrollment capacity for children is 60 and is modeled by child-centered, hands-on experiences and creative problem-solving. Their environment and interactions between children and adults provide the setting for meaningful foundations for life long learning.
Our goal is to maintain the following staff/child ratios and room capacities the majority of the day:
| Room | Age Range | Max Capacity | Staff Level |
|---|---|---|---|
| Infants | 6 weeks to 12+ months | 8 children | 1 adult for every 4 children. |
| Toddler I | 12 months to 20+ months | 10 children | 1 adult for every 5 children. |
| Toddler II | 20 months to 30+ months | 10 children | 1 adult for every 5 children. |
| Preschool I | 30 months to 45 + months | 14 children | 1 adult for every 7 children. |
| Preschool II | 45 months to 60 months | 15 children | 1 adult for every 9 children. |
Procedure for Enrollment
If you are interested in our center, we invite you to visit us in the Allied Health Building L, right beside the dental clinic. During your visit, we encourage you to fill out a pre-enrollment form placing your child on our waiting list. We do maintain a very extensive waiting list with an average waiting period for new enrollees being 6 - 8 months, possibly longer. However, circumstances and situations change from month to month and spaces could become available sooner than we anticipated. We welcome all applicants and are an equal opportunity provider.
Financial Assistance
The Center does not offer any type of financial assistance. Students may seek assistance through the financial aid office here on campus. Others may seek assistance through the Department of Social Services in the form of a childcare voucher.
