General Information About Placement Testing
As part of the admissions process, applicants must complete a placement test. CFCC uses the Accuplacer. The placement test is used to place students in appropriate levels of reading, English, and math courses. The Accuplacer includes sections in reading comprehension, writing (sentence skills), and mathematics (numerical/arithmetic and algebra). Students are tested in the various areas depending on their programs of study. The Accuplacer is not a pass/fail test. The results aid in course placement and may indicate a need for developmental courses to improve skill level. This placement information will help the student build a solid foundation for success while attending CFCC. There is no charge for taking the test. The testing schedule is available in the offices of Career and Testing Services and Admissions. Plan to be on campus approximately two and a half hours for testing and test interpretation.
Students who have attended college and completed English and/or math courses with a grade of “C” or better may be waived from taking the placement test. Contact the Counseling Office to discuss procedures for waiving the placement test or parts of the test. Placement test scores are transferable from other schools. If you have taken the Accuplacer, ASSET, Compass, SAT or ACT at another school, please have the school mail the scores to the Admissions Office at CFCC. All placement test scores are valid for five years.
