Getting Started with Blackboard 9.1

Add a Content Item

About Items

One of the options in the Build Content button is an Item. An item is a page that includes whatever information you place on it, including text and attachments. You cannot place an assessment in an Item. This area is for informational materials, including text typed into the text editor, embedded files, and attached files.

Part of this activity will be a review from the Syllabus activity and you have already worked with the text editor and the file attachment feature in the text editor.

If you need to review information about using the text editor, view the short movies below to prepare you for this activity:

You will create an item that will include four headings, some text, and an embedded image.

If you are not familiar with the purpose of headings, they provide structure to the document and are important for people who use assistive devices to read text to them. A top level heading is heading 1; heading 2 is a sub-heading of heading 1; heading 3 is a sub-heading of heading 2 and so on.

To add a heading in the Blackboard text editor, use the dropdown selector in the upper left.
You will see the heading options here. Select the desired heading level and then type your text.
