Add a Discussion Forum
About the Discussion Tool
The discussion forum is a communication tool used for a variety of interactive activities. There are many types of discussion that can be conducted in a course (debate, opinions, peer review, role play, etc.). This is one of the most commonly used tools in the learning management system.
Discussions can be graded or non-graded (social area, technical questions, etc.)
IMPORTANT: The discussion board includes an activity called the Enrollment Verification, which must be completed by students in all online (Internet or Hybrid) courses. You can read about the purpose of and instructions for this item in the Enrollment Verification Information section of DL faculty site. If your course does not include this activity, this page includes information on uploading it to your course.
If you select to create a graded discussion forum, a corresponding column will be created in the Grade Center.
You should note that if you copy one of your existing courses into a new course shell, that you must remove the old discussion posts, since they are not automatically removed. They will appear to be posted by "anonymous" since the users in the new course were not enrolled in originating course.
The following tutorials show you how to create and grade discussions:
