Blackboard 9.1 Self-paced Faculty Tutorials
This tutorial was created as a self-paced option for faculty who either prefer this method of training or have difficulty attending face-to-face workshops.
What Training Topics are Covered?
This instruction covers different workshops and the activities you will complete will depend on which training you selected. The following is a list of the training covered in this resource and the corresponding interactive checklist for each:
- Getting Started with Blackboard 9.1 (required to complete before the others):
Blackboard Getting Started Checklist (pdf) - Bb Assessments (assignments, tests, surveys and pools)
Bb Assessments Checklist (pdf) - Bb Communication tools (asynchronous)
Bb Communication Tools (asynchronous) Checklist (pdf) - Bb Grade Center (grading and managing grade center items)
Bb Grade Center Checklist (pdf)
Note: The course administrator will use these checklists to determine if you have successfully completed the course(s). you can use them as a guide to help ensure that you have completed all required activities.
How Does it Work?
First, in order to receive credit for any of the self-paced training, you must register for each workshop. Select the self-paced option.
You will be provided with a course shell and will be enrolled as an instructor. It might take a few business days for the course shell to be set up after you submit the registration form.
You will receive an email with instructions after the shell is created and you will use this same area for all self-paced training.
You should open this site and Blackboard at the same time. This site includes the instructions and you will perform the activities in your Blackboard training course.
The self-paced courses include several steps for you to complete. While you will be provided with instructional materials and resources throughout, if you feel you are ready to attempt an activity, you may do so. You will move through the course, starting with "Import Template" and move down the menu, according to the appropriate checklist for your selected training.
After completing all items, you will contact the administrator of this learning activity, who will then review the course. If you have completed the activities correctly, your completion will be noted. Otherwise, you will be contacted about items that should be revised.
Bb Environment
If you need a review of the Blackboard course management environment, refer to:
- Your Course Environment (movie, 3:46)
This movie will provide you with an overview of the Blackboard course environment, including the menu, edit feature, and home page. - Blackboard Interface (pdf)
These screenshots of the interface and basic functions can be printed for reference.
What This Tutorial Does Not Include
While this short course provides you with instruction on how to use the learning management system known as Blackboard, it does not teach you how to develop quality online courses. You should pursue further instruction and assistance with course development, as needed.
A list of resources is provided at the end of the course to help with course development and with using Blackboard.
