Journal: Students should keep a notebook for recording thoughts, observations, and feelings on subjects explored in class. The journal may reflect students' experiences and processes of learning. Journals are not simply a record of day to day events. The intent is to promote thought about writing and about the essays students read and discuss. Journals should not be used for class lesson notes or for information from the textbook. Since students are only required to write one entry each week, each entry should be well thought out. Don't just throw something together in order to complete the assignment; the journal will be considered as part of the class participation grade. Minimum 1 1/2 - 2 pages.

Essays: Essays must be word processed and double - spaced with 1 inch margins. Typical  essay length is 3 to 4 pages. Save all drafts because they may be required for comparison.
