Site Use and Navigation
First of all,
you need to understand that the material on
this site
is intended to help you become a better student.
The site is
designed to be easy to navigate. Longer pages can
be scrolled
using the scroll bar on the right of the page. Most
pages should
have buttons at the bottom which will allow you
to jump back
to the top. There are also links to the home page,
the main
history page, and to the syllabus.
Over the next
several years, more college classes will be
including
Internet materials, so this class may help you get
comfortable
with the idea of using the Internet as an
educational
tool. Don't worry if you feel overwhelmed
at first.
Think of the Internet as the world's largest
library;
use what you need.
You should
realize that in college classes students are
responsible
for reading everything in the textbook unless
the instructor
indicates otherwise. If you read and understand
the textbook
and pay attention to class lectures and discussions,
and take
clear notes, you should be prepared. Make sure you
read Cramming.
Everything
on the tests will be covered in either the lectures
or the textbook.
The Web pages are supplementary materials.
The
links provide access to a variety of materials which can
be quite
useful. If the text does not explain a topic as clearly
as you might
like, you may find the Web pages helpful.
If you miss
class, you can review the material covered in
class by
checking the schedule.
There are
a variety of pages linked to this site, but you are
not required to look at them all. If a topic
interests you, go
ahead and
explore. If there are areas where you think you
might need
some more information, follow the links you
think will
be useful.
Web pages
can be read, printed, or saved to a disc. If you
don't know
how to save them, just click on the save button
at the top
of the page or click on the file button and a menu
will drop
down, click on save. Make sure to save the file on
a floppy
in drive A. Give the file a name and click on save.
Do not save any files on the hard drive /
C drive on any of
the school's
computers.
