Since I started working
with Dr. Burt Browning in Advanced
Instructional Technology ,
I've become interested in the educational applications of technology. I've
started my own Web Design
page and I've collected
useful materials on my
Educational
Technology Links page. My interest
in Educational Technology
is in part due to the theories of David Jonassen
on Constructivism.
I'm currently taking classes in Educational Technology at UNC-W and East Carolina and continue to develop my Web site on a weekly basis.
I support the Constructivist
idea that students will benefit from being actively engaged in the learning
process. Many will, however, have to
break habits that they
have developed in the public schools.
During the summer of 1999,
I was able to begin using Internet materials
in class for the first
time. Some students found my Web site helpful, but those students who had
not used the Internet as a learning tool seem to have had a bit of trouble
getting comfortable with the idea.
My interest in
Constructivism
has helped me pursue both academic and personal interests. Since the time
I found out that my family tree included members of the Seminole nation
on my father's side and members of the Cherokee nation on my mother's side,
I became fascinated with finding
out as much as possible
about my ancestry. Unfortunately, the history books we used in school pretty
much neglected to deal with anything but the so called Indian Wars. I read
everything I could find, even today the Indian Nations don't receive adequate
attention. The Internet provides a useful source of information and a place
where Indian peoples can share their concerns.

I'm a firm believer that
Macintosh provides a superior operating system. PCs are just plain bad
tempered. If you need information on Macs,
The
Ultimate Macintosh and Mac
Sitelink are good places to start.
Link to information on
hardware, software, buying Macs on the Net,
and visit software archives.
Having been an
avid reader most of my life, I've developed tastes for a variety of literature.
My English Literature classes exposed me to Hemingway, D. H. Lawrence,
Fitzgerald and the like, and I developed a taste for Fantasy and Science
Fiction as a kid. After I got my hands
on The Lord
of the Rings, I couldn't get enough of Tolkien,
Ursula
Le Guin ,
or Katherine
Kurtz .
There are some great books at SF
and Fantasy Books Online .
One of the things I like about the Net is the spirit of sharing. The
Online Books Page provides access to free E-texts of public
domain books.
The EServer at the University of Washington provides information on history, film, TV, fiction, music, links on technology and culture, and much more.
Interested in original documents and artifacts? The WWW-VL History: Central Catalogue and Internet Archive at Hanover are good places to begin exploring both American History and the history of Western Civilization.
I have distinctive musical
interests. Recently I've been tracking down CDs from the Dixie
Dregs , the
Strawbs,
and Steeleye Span. Steeleye
Span contains a history of the incredible British folk rock band Steeleye
Span
as well as a picture gallery
of album covers, a disocgraphy, and links to other Steeleye Span sites.
