Valerie Melvin is a full-time mathematics instructor and Vice-President of the Faculty Association. Valerie holds a BS and MA in mathematics from UNC Wilmington. She has nineteen years of full-time instruction experience at CFCC including thirteen years of online teaching. Valerie has taught part-time for UNC-Wilmington, Mount Olive College, Brunswick Community College and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. She worked with the North Carolina Virtual Learning Community in the capacities of subject matter expert, editor and course designer. She has presented at both the North Carolina Mathematics Association of Two Year Colleges and the American Mathematics Association of Two Year Colleges annual conferences on topics related to uses of technology in instruction. She was the 2010 North Carolina Mathematics Association of Two Year Colleges Teaching Excellence Award recipient and 2012 National Council of Teachers of Mathematics travel grant awardee to attend the twelfth International Congress on Mathematical Education held in Seoul, Korea.
