SAVING & PRINTING
INTERNET BOOKMARKS

The following instructions were prepared by Ms. Carolyn Hatcher at the
Cape Fear Community College Learning
Resource Center (LRC) and edited by me primarily to help students perform
Internet tasks related to my course assignments, especially the Bibliography project. While this is its primary purpose, our hope is that anyone might find these
instructions helpful.

I. You must use a formatted 2HD disk!
- 1. Put a disk into the "A" disk drive. (Located on
the front of your computer.)
- 2. Enter the Windows program. In the LRC this requires that
you select Windows 3.1 (Internet Access) by using the up and down arrow
keys to highlight Windows.
- 3. Press enter to select.
II. If you are using a community computer, such as those
in Cape Fear's Library, it will be necessary to delete the existing bookmarks
to ensure that only those bookmarks which you will save for your bibliography
get saved and printed.
- 5. Using the left mouse button, click once on Bookmarks (see
top of the screen).
- 6. Click once on Go To Bookmarks.
- 7. Click once on the first bookmark entry.
- 8. While holding down the shift key, move you cursor to and
click on the last entry. All bookmarks should now be highlighted.
Press the delete key.
- 9. Click on File. (Upper left corner of the screen)
III. NOW YOU ARE GOING TO SEARCH THE NET TO FIND YOUR
INFORMATION AND SAVE THE ADDRESSES IN THE FORM OF BOOKMARKS.
- 12. Use the search engine on screen or click on a "search engine"
preference, e.g. INFOSEEK,
YAHOO
or , Lycos,
etc. You can also scroll down for additional "search engines."
Click on your choice. Once you select a "search engine" click
inside the empty white box, which usually has "search" or "seek"
next to it, and type in the subject, e.g. Philosophy. The "search
engine" will provide a master list of sites on your subject.
Note: How you define your search on the Internet is as important
as when doing a subject search in the electronic catalogues of a library.
The more broadly your topic is stated the greater the number of sites will
be found in your search. This could make finding information difficult.
Thus define your subject clearly and specifically, .
- 13. Select a title that you would like to check by clicking on the
highlighted text to open.
- 14. If this page or site looks like a good or interesting source and
you want to save it as a bookmark, click on Bookmarks and then click
on Add Bookmark. Click on Back to return to your master list.
(Repeat step 14 for each address)
- 15. When you have saved the last bookmark address that you wish to
save, click on Bookmarks, then click on Go To Bookmarks.
- 18. Change the disk drive to "A" by using the following
steps:
- a. Click on the first down arrow in the Drives box;
- b. Click on the up arrow and scroll up until the "A"
drive appears;
- c. Click on "A".
- d. Go to the Filename box and delete *.htm and type in
a filename (LIMITED TO 8 LETTERS).
- 19. Click on OK. (Congratulations you have just down loaded
your bookmarks; however, you are not through yet. You must clean up your
