This topic usually causes a headache, now even more so with Netscape 6.x. Apparently some tags that used to work in 4.x now don't. According to examples. you can embed sound in the Head and make the control panel hidden. In 6.x I had to make height and width = 1 instead. The mouseover example doesn't seem to work in 6.x or IE.Embed seems to work well in both, either in head or in body. Object I think worked in one, not other.
My 6.x first wanted a plug in, and wanted Quicktime- which doesn't play everthing. Realplay and WinAmp is sposed to, but I had problems.. I like Crescendo for most formats- but won't do waves. Beatnik is built in (?)- works for waves.
Anyway- here are a few examples that I got to work on mine.
Try to get more then one sound format to work in both browsers, and also the mouseover.
- Sound1-6.2 --using embeds and all formats for Netscape 6.2.1. IE ok.
- Sound1-4.79 --using embeds and all formats for Netscape 4.79 with Crescendo
- Sound2-4.79 --using embedsfor 4.79 and bgsound for IE.
- Sound2-IE -- using embedsfor 4.79 and bgsound for IE.
- Sound3-4.79 --using embed and mouseover (works on 4.79)
- Sound4-6.2 --using objects in head and body
- Sound-Cres -- This page gets Crescendo plugin if not there, plays Elise.rmi.
Of couse, you can always use links instead.
