Federal Pell Grant

Pell Grants are funded by the Federal government and comprise the majority of student financial aid at CFCC.  Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students (those who have not earned a bachelor’s or graduate degree) who demonstrate financial need.

Pell Grants are awarded to cover the period from July 1st of any given year until June 30th of the following year.

Annual Pell Grant awards range from $555-$5550.  Pell Grant awards are pro-rated based upon how many credit hours in which a student is registered.

For example, Student A is registered full-time (12 or more credit hours), and receives an award letter for $1000.  Student A will receive $500 Pell Grant for Fall semester and $500 Pell Grant for Spring semester.  If Student A is registered for three-quarters time (9-11 credit hours), he/she will receive $375 Pell Grant for Fall semester and $375 Pell Grant for Spring semester.  And if Student A is registered for half-time (6-8 credit hours), he/she will receive $250 Pell Grant for Fall semester and $250 Pell Grant for Spring semester.

Pell awards are portable.  If a student transfers to another institution and has remaining eligibility, he/she may receive a Pell Grant at the second institution.  It is the student’s responsibility to send the FAFSA data to the new school which will calculate the student’s eligibility to receive a Pell Grant.  Students can receive only one Pell Grant in an award year and cannot receive Pell Grant funds from more than one school at a time.

**Financial Aid awards for Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) and Cosmetology students will be processed based on the number of clock hours the student successfully completes and the number of weeks elapsed**.

Students can complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.gov.
