Cape Fear Community College

Financial Aid

To determine financial need, students must first apply for financial aid. Many students / families mistakenly think they don't qualify for aid. There is no good excuse for not applying. Additionally, there are a few sources of aid, such as the unsubsidized Stafford and PLUS loans that are available regardless of need. Use the Quick Start Guide below to get started.

News and Announcements

  • NEW, NEW, NEW effective FALL 2011:   Beginning with the fall 2011 semester, students enrolled in the second mini session will not receive the financial aid associated with those credits until approximately three weeks after the start date of the second mini session.
    • Example:  A student is eligible for a Federal Pell Grant of $2,775 for full time enrollment during the fall 2011 semester.  The student is enrolled in six credits offered during the full and/or first mini session, both of which begin on August 15; and six credits in the second mini session, which begins on October 12.   Aid for the six credits associated with full semester or first mini session classes beginning on August 15 ($1,388) will be processed.  The student will receive a check for that amount of aid, less tuition, fees, and bookstore purchases charged against pending financial aid.  Excess financial aid checks will be mailed on September 19.
  • Aid for the six credits associated with the second mini session classes beginning on October 12 ($1,387) will be processed after the start date of the second mini session and reduced by any amount still owed CFCC.  A check for the remaining funds will be mailed to the student approximately 3 weeks late
  • Bookstore Charging -- Students who charge textbooks and supplies against a pending financial aid award in the CFCC Bookstores will be limited to a $60 per credit cap on charges.  As an example, a student enrolled in 12 credits will be allowed to charge a total of $720 in required books and supplies.  The intent of federal financial aid is to assist the student with individual educational expenses.  The privilege of charging bookstore purchases against pending financial aid is a courtesy extended to CFCC students.  Future purchases will be monitored and the privilege of charging may be revoked if charges are deemed to be excessive.  Students enrolled in allied health, cosmetology, and culinary programs may be exempt, depending upon their exact purchases.  Exceptions to this procedure can only be granted by staff members in the Business or Financial Aid Offices.  Exceptions will only be granted for the purchase of required text books.
  • Financial Aid Deadline -- It is strongly recommended that new applicants submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by November 18 and submit all requested supporting documents by November 30 for Spring 2012 financial aid consideration. We will continue to review and process applications received after the above dates but will not guarantee that aid will be finalized in time to avoid your having to pay out of pocket for tuition and fees and books and supplies. The student is responsible for all charges in the absence of a financial aid award. Payment can be made by cash, check, debit card, MasterCard, VISA, American Express and Discover. Make appropriate arrangements to pay to avoid having your fall schedule of classes canceled.
    • **Please Note: CFCC will close for the holidays December 24, and will not reopen until Tuesday, January 3.  Financial Aid staff members will not be processing application materials during that period of time.
  • Email Correspodence -- ALL student correspondence from the Financial Aid Office is sent via e-mail.  Current students should check their CFCC e-mail accounts frequently for important information from the Financial Aid Office, including documents required to complete the application and award notices.  Notices to prospective students will be sent to the address provided on the admission application until a CFCC e-mail account is assigned.
  • Student Employee of the Year:2011 SEOTY Winners Announcement

**If a student decides NOT to attend CFCC after registering for classes, s/he MUST complete paperwork for an official drop BEFORE the first day of the semester. Failure to do so will result in the student's being charged for tuition and fees. All financial aid will be taken away. **
