Fire Protection Technology

The fire protection program is designed to meet the increasing demands placed on fire service personnel. It serves to prepare the student for employment within the fire service in addition to preparing employed persons for possible career advancement.

Fire Protection Technology Degree Program

The Fire Protection Technology curriculum is intended to provide individuals with technical and professional knowledge to make decisions regarding fire protection for both public and private sectors. It also provides a sound foundation for continuous higher learning in fire protection, administration, and management.

Courses are taught online and in person with the purpose to introduce the student to various aspects of fire protection. Fire protection technology is wide-ranging. It involves the study of many areas, such as; fire protection systems, fire department resources, building construction, fire chemistry and physics, safety, fire department management, emergency management, legal issues, fire investigation, hazardous materials, inspections and codes, and fire prevention.

Graduates will earn a two-year associate degree and should qualify for employment or advancement in governmental agencies, industrial firms, insurance rating organizations, educational organizations, and municipal fire departments. Employed persons should have opportunities for skilled and supervisory-level positions within their current organizations.
