Start College in High School!

Local high school students can start college early through our Huskins, Concurrent Enrollment, and Early College programs.

High school juniors and seniors may be eligible to enroll in college classes through our Concurrent Enrollment or Huskins programs. Students in these programs may even be able to earn a college level certificate in while you are still in high school!

Rising ninth graders in New Hanover and Pender Counties may apply for admission to one of the Early College High Schools at CFCC.

Getting Started

Click the steps bellow to learn how you can start your college work now.

Step 1. Apply

Gateway Application

High school juniors and seniors who are at least 16 years old: Complete this application and submit it to your high school. (Early college students must first apply directly to the school system.)

Step 2. Find a Class

Huskins Students:

2009-2010 Huskins Schedule

Huskins classes are designated primarily, if not solely, for high school students. Huskins classes be offered at a CFCC campus, at a high school campus, and even online. Classes that meet at CFCC and online may have a different schedule than the high school calendar. See the CFCC Academic Calendar. for a list of start dates, holidays, and end dates for most CFCC classes.

Concurrent Enrollment Students:

CFCC Schedule of Classes

Concurrent enrollment students enroll in classes published in the regular CFCC Schedule of Classes. These classes meet at a CFCC campus or online. All regularly CFCC classes run on the CFCC Academic Calendar.

Step 3. Register

Fill out a Gateway Registration Card. You may pick up this card at your high school counseling office or at the CFCC Counseling Office on either campus.

Huskins Students:

Have your school principal or designated Gateway counselor approve your Gateway Registration Card. Your registration will be finalized when you attend class. (A CFCC counselor will visit all Huskins classes during the first two class meetings to confirm all registrations.)

Remember: Unless otherwise specified, all Fall 2009 Huskins classes offered on a CFCC campus or online will begin with the CFCC calendar. In most cases, classes will begin one to two weeks before the high school calendar!

Students should be prepared to pay student fees and, if applicable,insurance fees (for cosmetology students) on the first day of class.

See the Huskins Textbooks for a list of required textbooks and/or supplies for your class. (Your instructors may require supplies and materials that are not found on this list.)

Concurrent Enrollment Students:

Have your school principal or designated Gateway counselor approve your Gateway Registration Card.

Take this approved registration card to the "Special Credit/Concurrent Enrollment Registration" at CFCC on Late Registration Day. (CFCC cannot enroll high school students in college classes without an approved registration card.)

9 A.M. to 5 P.M.

Downtown Campus: Room 314 in the Galehouse "A" Building
North Campus: BB&T Auditorium in the McKeithan Center

CFCC Transcripts:

Graduating seniors who have taken a CFCC course should have their official CFCC transcripts sent to their prospective colleges/ universities. See the Transcripts web page for instructions.
