Dr. John Schulte (Clinical psychologist, psychology professor)-Discussion of DSM standards of diagnosis and current treatment methods

Aimee Helmus (Director of Disability Services)-Discussion of stats regarding students registered with Autism and services provided for students on the spectrum

Dan Reid (Instructor of Fire Technology, Parent of Child on Spectrum)-Discussion of first responder training to identify and work with individuals with special needs in emergency situations, personal experience parenting a child on the spectrum

Rebecca McGee-Hudson (Autism Specialist, TEACCH Wilmington) Discussion of services provided by TEACCH to support children and families of those with ASD in our community, personal experience as the parent of a child with special needs

Teresa Mebane (Advocate NC Autism Society) –Discuss services and advocacy provided by NC Autism Society and also speak about her experiences as the parent of a child on the spectrum who attends CFCC, Teresa will also fill in the blanks if we’ve omitted anything

Ben Billingsley will moderate the discussion and Q&A to follow.

CFCC and UNCW Music Faculty Select Steinway Piano for the Humanities and Fine Arts Center

Peggy Lupton, CFCC Music Instructor, and Dr. Barry Salwen, UNCW Music faculty member, visited the Steinway factory during spring break and selected a model D grand piano for the HFAC concert hall.

CFCC and UNCW Art faculty and students visited the Penland School of Crafts in Penland, NC in the first week of March 2016.

Geoff Calabrese, CFCC Art Instructor, and Andi Steele, UNCW Associate Professor in Sculpture, took their students from both colleges to tour the Penland School of Crafts.

Wilmington Arts Summit at CFCC, April 15-16, 2016

The Arts Council of Wilmington/NHC, in association with Cape Fear Community College’s Humanities & Fine Arts Department, will present the inaugural Wilmington Arts Summit, April 15-16, 2016, at CFCC.

The Wilmington Arts Summit will offer more than 30 expert-led workshops on professional development and capacity-building for artists and arts organizations throughout southeastern North Carolina. Best of all, it’s free of charge!

The kickoff will be held on Friday, April 15, from 6-9 pm, in CFCC’s Wilma W. Daniels Gallery and will include networking opportunities by discipline and other focus areas. Concurrent breakout sessions on Saturday, April 16, from 10-4, will be held in 10 classrooms in the academic wing of CFCC’s new Humanities & Fine Arts Center. The seating capacity will be 24 per classroom per session. Hourly panel discussions will be held in the center’s Black Box Theater, which has a seating capacity of about 125.

Postcards from Spain is a group exhibit opening at ACES Gallery, March 25,2016, 6 – 9 pm. as part of downtown Wilmington’s 4th Friday Gallery Nights.  The gallery welcomes the work of CFCC art instructor Kirah Van Sickle and the students who participated in her 2015 plein air workshop in Spain. Works include painting, drawings, prints, collages and mixed media, all inspired by time in Barcelona and the Costa Brava. Please join us for the opening reception, works on view through April 19, 2016.

Exhibiting artists include: Kay Bilisoly, Melinda Chipley, Susan Snider, Darla Warner, Gail Galligan, Joan Keiser, Marianne Janney and Kirah Van Sickle.
