CFCC’s Rick Conn Participates in Pedestrian Art Exhibit

Friday, September 28th, 2018

Rick Conn, Art Instructor at CFCC, has two pieces on display in Wilmington’s most recent pedestrian art exhibit.  Mr. Conn’s sculptures are on display along the Riverwalk near the Port City Marina.  All of the sculptures survived Hurricane Florence.

From a StarNews article:

“Rick Conn’s Navigator and True North feel right at home across from the marina on the Northern Riverwalk. The abstract forms defy their rigid, rusted material, with fluid, easing shapes that seem capable of molding to the wind, like ship sails at sea. The two works are a PedArt debut for Conn, who teaches sculpture at Cape Fear Community College.”

In Memory of Carlos Denogean

Tuesday, September 4th, 2018

CFCC alumnus Carlos Denogean passed away from an aneurysm on August 24, 2018, shortly before his 31st birthday.  He had just returned home from a U.S. tour as drummer with the local heavy metal band Weedeater.  Previously he had played across Europe.  In 2009 he founded the Wilmington band Salvacion.

Carlos graduated with an Associate of Fine Arts in Music and Music Education in July of 2012.  He was one of the first two students to earn that degree at Cape Fear Community College. Faculty remember his agreeable personality, passion for music, and willingness to try other instruments.  He enjoyed all his varied musical experiences and lived life to the max.
