Employees have the option to purchase additional policies through Wellington Benefits, an insurance broker who handles a comprehensive package of benefits unique to Cape Fear Community College. The booklet above lists all of the current optional insurance available. Popular choices include:
Dental Insurance through Ameritas
Dental covers 100% of preventive care cost, 80% of basic procedure cost and 50% of the cost of major procedures. Refer to the benefits booklet for current rates and plan details. Most area dentist accept Ameritas, but you can visit their website for a full list.
Vision Insurance through Ameritas
Vision covers one eye exam per year, contacts or lenses once per year and frames every two years, with cost limitations. In order to receive full benefits, you will need to visit an eye doctor in the VSP network. Select Find a Provider and search as a guest to see if your eye doctor is in the network. We have the VSP Signature plan. Refer to the benefits booklet for current rates and plan details.
Flexible Spending Account
The IRS allows eligible employees to deduct up to $2,500 per year pre-tax from their paychecks and place it into a medical spending account. This plan will issue a debit card for access to your account. These funds may be used for doctor visits, deductible and co-insurance, pharmacy medication, and some limited over-the-counter items. Disability, Accident, Cancer, Heart Attack/Stroke, Term Life and Whole Life, as well as other supplemental insurance plans, are available. In order to enroll, you must be within 30 days of your hire date or must enroll during open enrollment, held in October of each year with a January 1 effective date.
