By now, all employees currently on the State Health Plan should have received a mailing concerning the new plan options for 2014. If you did not receive a mailing, here is a direct link to the pdf version on the SHP website.
If you are curious about the premiums, the information can be found here. The SHP did not send out premium information in the mailer, but it is available on the website at the above link and sometime this month (September) a premium calculator will be posted on their website.
So, what can you do to prepare for the upcoming changes?
The SHP is offering one webinar to community college employees. Only the first 500 to register will be able to attend, and they have not announced any other dates. I am hoping they will post the webinar to their website after it is complete. The webinar will be held on Thursday, September 12 from 2-3pm.
2) SHP representatives are touring the state for limited in-person sessions. A full list of sessions is listed here. There are no sessions scheduled for New Hanover, Brunswick or Pender counties but one is scheduled in Whiteville for October 11.
3) Frequently check the State Health Plan website for updates. Updates will be posted under the My Medical Benefits tab. We will also continue to update here on the CFCC HR website. The SHP will post a series of informational videos as open enrollment nears. The first video is available now.
Actions you can take now:
If you are considering enrolling in either the Enhanced 80/20 Plan or the new Consumer-Directed Health Plan (CDHP) and want to do all you can to reduce your premiums, there are a couple of steps you can take at this time without waiting until open enrollment. If you prefer, you may wait until open enrollment to complete these activities but in order to receive credit they must be completed by October 31, 2013. If you plan to choose the 70/30 plan, you can still complete the steps but it doesn’t affect premiums.
1) Select a Primary Care Provider (PCP) for yourself and for each of your dependents. In order to do this, visit our eEnroll site. If you don’t know your log-in information, click on the “Can’t access your account?” link. If you continually have problems, contact HR and we will reset your password manually.
Once you are logged in, select Enroll Now. This is the same location you will visit when you actually complete your open enrollment in October. Once inside the portal, click on Benefits, then View/Edit Information. Next, you will click on the Edit button next to Primary Care Provider. You will now need to search for the PCP for each person on the plan by clicking on the Search button next to each dependent. When you find your provider, click Select as PCP under the provider’s name. After you have completed this step for each dependent, make sure you save your selections by click on Next until you received a confirmation that your changes have been saved.
2) Complete the confidential Health Assessment on-line on the State Health Plan website or over the phone at (800) 817-7044. From the website, click on the NC HealthSmart tab, then scroll down until you see the link for the Personal Health Portal. You will need to register if this is your first visit (you can choose whatever you want, but it won’t automatically be the same username/password as the CFCC portal, eEnroll or ORBIT).
Once you have logged in to the Personal Health Portal, you will have a link to complete your Health Assessment. If you don’t know the answer to a question (such as cholesterol or blood pressure) you can select “I don’t know” and fill it in later. As long as you make it to the end and save it, you will be given credit. The HR office, CFCC and the State Health Plan do not have access to this information, as NCHealthSmart is a third-party vendor that provides free services to SHP members. You do not need to complete a Health Assessment for any dependents.
3) During open enrollment, you may complete the third premium-reducing activity, which is attesting that you and your spouse do not smoke or will commit to a smoking cessation program. This activity cannot be completed until open enrollment. Dependent children do not need an attestation.
