PRINCIPLES AND ELEMENTS
OF DESIGN  I

I.          COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces the basic concepts and terminology of design as they relate to the design profession.

 Topics include: line, pattern, space, mass, shape, texture, color, unity, variety, rhythm, emphasis, balance, proportion, scale, and function.

II.        COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the principles covered through hands-on application of art and interior design.

III.       COURSE CONTENT

Students will study the principles and elements of art through an exploration method.

They will develop solutions to design problems in order to develop their visual discernment of their environment and the characteristics

that function to make that environment more pleasing and functional.

IV.       HOURS, CREDITS, PREREQUISITES:

Course Hours Per Week: Class 6
Semester Credit Hours: 4
