TEXTILES
/ FABRICS
I. COURSE
DESCRIPTION
This course
includes the study of woven and non-woven fabrics for interiors. Topics include
characteristics of fiber yarns, weaving, felting, knitting and processing of
leather, adorning and finishing of interior fabrics.
Upon completion,
students should be able to recognize and use correct terminology for various
fabrics, upholstery, window treatments and rugs/carpets with regard to type,
flammability, performance and durability.

To understand a basic history of fabrics
from fibers

To understand basic fibers and their
characteristics

To develop knowledge of uses of fabrics
and textiles

To become competent with the uses for
textiles

To understand and utilize design elements
with various textiles

To understand a basic history of window
treatments
·
To learn various types of window
treatments
·
To have a basic understanding of how to
measure windows for coverings
·
To develop skill in determining
suitability of fabrics to their design settings
·
To learn basic presentation skills for
interior design with the use of textiles

VI. EVALUATION
Through
a series of assignments the student build towards an accepted level of skill in
interior design. The assignments and a final comprehensive project including a
drawing will be used to evaluate their proficiency.
