NON-RESIDENTIAL DESIGN I
I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces commercial/contract design
including retail, office, institutional, restaurant, and hospitality design.
Emphasis is placed on ADA
requirements, building codes and standards, space planning, and the selection
of appropriate materials for non-residential interiors,
II. COURSE
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion, students should be
able to analyze and design introductory non-residential projects using graphic
presentation concepts.
III. COURSE CONTENT
- To understand planning
methodology
- To understand
programming
- Review concepts
related to space planning
- To concentrate more
fully on drafting and lettering techniques
- To have a basic
understanding of ADA requirements and local building codes
- To learn about the
various types of commercial finish materials
- To learn how to
develop various commercial interior floor plans
- To learn how to
develop an office furniture plan
- To advance existing
skills for interior elevations
- To advance existing
skills for interior 30/60 and 45 degree orthographic drawings
- To advance existing
knowledge on professional presentations
