Campus Security and Safety
Planning Year
Purpose Statement : The purpose of the Campus Safety and Security Unit is to ensure that the campus is a safe and secure environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors. The unit is responsible for developing, communicating, and implementing policies and procedures that meet all local, state and federal requirements pertaining to safety and security.
#1 Objective/Intended Outcome :
The campus will be a safe and secure environment for employees and students.
Procedures/ Assessment Methods :
1a. The annual Crime Report will be used to report statistics on campus crime and vandalism at CFCC.
2a. The Graduating Student Opinion Survey will be used to collect data on student satisfaction with safety on campus.
Criteria for Success :
1a. No violent crimes or acts of vandalism will be reported on campus.
1b. Ninety percent of the graduates will “agree” or “strongly agree” with the statement on the survey , “I feel comfortable and safe while attending classes on the campus.”
Results :
1a. Statistics reported in the annual crime report showed that no crimes or vandalism occurred on campus for this year.
1b. Only 75% of the students responding to the Graduating Student Opinion Survey indicated they “agreed” or “strongly agreed” with the statement that they felt comfortable and safe on campus.
Use of Results :
1a. Met the target for having no vandalism or crime reported on campus. No further action needed but continue to monitor.
1b. Did not meet the target for students feeling safe and secure on campus. 75% is too low. A follow-up survey will be developed and administered to students during fall semester to collect more specific information to determine why 25% of the students do not feel safe and secure on campus. A safety task force of faculty, staff and student representatives will be formed to review the responses and to take steps to improve safety and/or the negative perceptions about safety on campus.
