Legendary Percussionist Joe Chambers to perform with Benny Hill Quartet at Cape Fear Community College on March 3February 25th, 2016 by Sonya Johnson
Wilmington, NC – The Cape Fear Community College Humanities and Fine Arts Department, in partnership with Benny Hill Music and Music Medic, is proud to present the Benny Hill Quartet featuring Joe Chambers, March 3 at 7:00 p.m. in a concert to support CFCC’s music students. All proceeds from the concert will benefit the CFCC Jazz Scholarship.
The concert will highlight many different jazz eras featuring both standard and original compositions and will include the original members of The Benny Hill Quartet, Brad Merritt, Doug Irving, and Israel Bannerman, as well as legendary drummer and vibraphonist Joe Chambers. Chambers is best known for his work with Wayne Shorter on the album Adam’s Apple. He has worked with high-profile artists such as Eric Dolphy, Charles Mingus, Lou Donaldson, Chick Correa, and Freddie Hubbard.
Benny Hill, CFCC music instructor and saxophonist, put the show together as a way to raise funds for CFCC student musicians. “I’m so blessed and excited about the opportunity to play with a jazz legend like Mr. Chambers and help students in the process,” he said.
